So I have a chicken that lost her leg about a month ago, it’s all healed up, I’m trying prosthetics with it, and I’m documenting it on a different thread.

The other thread.

But today she’s had watery poops and I chalked that up to giving her too many strawberries yesterday (I think she continued munching on them today)
I also know it can be a stress thing

So today I went to put her prosthetic on, picked her up, she struggled(she’s not a fan of the prosthetic being put on) and I heard a POP somewhere in her body?!?!
Well that’s terrifying, so I put her down in the ground and she started panting. I pushed her mealworms towards her and she immediately stopped panting and started pecking at her treats. I put her in her cage and she began her normal “purring” and happy noises.
But the pop and the panting?? I’m panicking a little. What was that about?? Is she okay??

Joints pop.

Panting is how they cool off, maybe she was hot from the activity.. or like you say it could have been nerves (anxiety stress) at the time.

The fact that she is behaving otherwise normally pecking at treats leads me to believe that she IS okay and you are doing a great job paying attention!

Maybe you can edit your first post to include a link to your other thread? I have seen one legged chickens hopping around without the use of prosthesis.

Okay that makes me feel lots better, thank you! I adore this goofy little chicken! And I’ll go add a link!

And I know I’ve seen it, but on her good leg, she’s in the process of losing all her toes (severe frostbite from the horrible Wisconsin winter) so I worry about what her balance will be like :(
