Vent sexing is easy on adult, breeding, coturnix. The males get a gland at the underside of the tail behind the vent. It is very swollen and pretty obvious usually. If you press on it, a white foam will come out. Try on one that you know is a male first, and also on one that you know is a female so you know what to look for.

I have problems just holding them still enough never mind searching for their "bits"

But having once hatched 6 roosters from 6 eggs, its a good bet to be a roo, esp. as I want it to be a hen!
