a question about baby sebright chicks

Are they always so tiny? I bought 4 pullets and 2 bantams and they are coming up on 2-3 weeks, one is for sure a sebright, but she is so much smaller than the other chicks I bought. She has more feathers than the rest, but it seems like she isn't really growing, either that or the others are just growing fast. I think she's okay, she eats and drinks and runs around and then sleeps a lot. She does seem to peep more than the others and she tries to snuggle with them. She is just so freakin tiny. Does all that sound normal for sebright chicks? Thanks in advance for any info. Lizzard

Bantam chicks grow painfully slow especially when your eyes compare them to the exorbitant growth of a larger breed bird!! I hatched an Orpington 5 days after buying 5 day old bantam seabrights, and now 7 days later the Orpington looks like she could have given birth to the seabrights lol. As long as she is healthy and is feathering, she is probably a female and your other bantam may be a roo. I find the males grow faster on a lot of breeds, and I have two silver seabrights now doing the same. Hatched same day, one is larger one is smaller. I must have a roo and a hen

I find it really helps to put like a small box or other object in the coop with them. You can watch their size against the stationery object and it helps see growth in small breeds. Last time I used a ceramic chicken and the birds cuddled up with it from the time they fit in its lap to the time they were smothering it all laying around it.

Thanks Cajunfeatherz! I've never had bantams so I didn't know. I've read a lot about seabrights, but couldn't find the information I was after. The other bantam is a frizzle, I think and it may very well be rooster. It is really a lot bigger. Great idea on putting an object in with them. That's funny, they snuggled with a ceramic chicken. I had a lone guinea I saved that I put a stuffed bear in with it and it would snuggle under its arm.

The frizzle will probably look so much bigger than the others and fast bc those frizzle feathers start popping up quick!! But yeah big giant bantam (in my experience, everyone is different) has usually been a roo. The females catch up though, it doesn't necessarily mean he will be unusually large

Seabrights are absolutely wonderful, quirky birds. You're gonna love em!!
