When ever i see anyone candling an egg they always seem to hold it upside down, but i have always candled them fat side up or sideways i figured being upside down might not be to good for the developing eggs as the weight of the developing chick puts pressure on the membrane where the air cell is

What are your thoughts on this

With this years pea eggs I've been trying to do them on their sides, but anything goes for my chicken and duck eggs, lol.

For eggs in the incubator I'll just take the whole tray of eggs out and into a dark room and then candle them from the top without even taking them out of the tray. If I am trying to take candling pics, double check for movement or candling eggs that are under a broody I'll candle them on their sides. Turning them upside down worries me that I might rip something loose in there and cause the egg to quit

Yea that is how i feel about my guineas

those eggs are tough but when i got over 200 in the bator i just pull out a rack and place a light on top of each egg and if they look clear or different from the rest i will pull them and have a better look but guinea eggs are soo soo easy to hatch and in the free range scenario i have seen them hatch a day or two later after mom leaves with the Keats, really amazing.
had a guinea set 19 of her own eggs and all but two hatched , they sure have a great shelf life

All of mine get set on their sides, so it makes sense to me to candle them the way they're being incubated, which is what you guys are saying, right?
