I have a fairly healthy flock of laying hens currently, but about a year ago I had none that were laying (they were chicks). Me and my wife went to the local Flea Market and bought 2 dozen eggs from a Mexican couple that apparently had a large farm (i.e. stacks of cartons). I've gone back but they aren't there any longer. Every single one of those eggs were double yoked. Every one of them. This is obviously some cross. But, how. Anyone with any info?

May just be they had a young flock as double yolkers are very common in young birds.. If you do find the secret formula please share it with me.. I would love to have all double yolkers but i dont think the chickens would like it as much OUCH

I had some Cornish rock crosses once that started laying double-yolkers in their 2nd year. Most of those have leg problems if left to grow---I butchered them and kept a few that weren't crippled---they started the double-yolkers in their 2nd year, when I finally made chicken soup out of them, the Missus was POed when she didn't get her big double eggs after that. Wikipedia says it's pullets that lay double yolkers, but I had the older Cornish rock crosses do it.
