This is probably going to sound silly.
I don't feed my son the eggs my hen makes. I don't know why I don't. I don't really know what the difference is in what happens between chicken and fridge when they come from huge farms made for store production and what the difference is in what happens when it comes from my chicken and goes to the fridge?
Is there a difference? I mean, I've really looked at an egg and it doesn't look like you can do much to it once its been laid. So it would have to be the feed that the chicken eats to change the egg, right?

My chickens now are about half free range and in the coop the other half eating feed. I just get basic laying mash from a local grain mill.

So is it okay to feed him the eggs? He's 14 months so he eats eggs already and loves them.

Now that i think about it, its probably better he eat the homemade eggs, since I am the one that controls what she eats and I know what shes eating. Hahaha I think I just answered my own question but I would still like to hear from you guys who maybe aren't totally egg illiterate like I am.

Thanks guys!

Chicken eggs can last for months in cold storage, so you never really know how old those eggs are in the market! Another reason to feed your farm fresh eggs to your son is you know your chickens are being fed and watered well and that they are not in a 2 foot cage with 3-4 other chickens! Have you even noticed the difference in the yolk color from your store bought eggs and the vibrent color of the farm fresh ones? I was raised on farm fresh eggs, my kids and now my grandkids and we are all healthy with no egg allergies in the bunch! Good luck!

I'm wondering if my farm fresh eggs will actually taste good? I know that it depends on what food you give them, but I have eaten some farm fresh eggs before from some people I know and they tasted GROSS. I have no idea what they feed them or anything, and I have heard that you just have to get used to them. I am about to feed them some layer feed and they go outside their pen into the garden every other day. :/

That is true, you don't really think about how long the eggs have been sitting in those cartons, I've never really thought about it. I do know when the eggs are laid and when they get put in the fridge. I have noticed the difference between yolk in a homemade egg and a store bought. Our eggs are so yellow and the yolks are so thick, when i make pancakes with them the pancakes are yellow from the yolks. I made pancakes last night with store bought eggs and they're weren't yellow like usual. Also the store bought eggs are runny and almost watery. So i guess you're right, i'm going to start giving him the homemade ones, because they're probably the most healthy food we eat seeing as i have the control over the animal that makes it. Thanks!

Our fresh eggs taste 100% better than store bought. There is a little difference at first when you're making the switch from store bought, but you'll be able to tell the difference in the yolk and the way they look. Then if you run out of fresh eggs and have to eat store bought you'll crack it open and be like "i used to eat this watery mess? this is awful" I was just hesitant about feeding them to my kid, but now that i've really thought it over, i don't know why i was. Its probably the best thing he could eat, since it isn't processed and scary and filled with all the crap they put into our food.
I feed my chickens a layer mash, either in crumbles or pellets, just depends on what the feed store has, its from a local grain mill. My chickens have been eating it their whole lives and they love it, but they also free range a lot so they get different things out there in the yard. I'm sure your eggs will be great, it may just take a few to get used to them. Good luck!

If you wanted to 'ease' you and him into eating fresh eggs you could scramble one of each together and see if you notice a difference.
Do that until you run out of store bought eggs and then dive into the real thing!
Home grown eggs do taste better than store bought ones but they do have taste and that sometimes puts people off.
