A question about sand in the coop...

well I dont have any experience with it yet but we are planning on using sand for our ducks winter run. The run will have a roof and under the sand will be a layer of gravel to help with drainage. I figure the sand and gravel will be alot better than topsoil for ducks since it should be harder for them to turn the pen into a mud pit lol. I guess basicaly they will have a giant sand box to live in for the winter and it should be fairly easy on there feet to.

Would grain/pellet lyme work for the smell as well as PDZ??

I found a place locally that has 40lb for $12 and change....

So for a 8x6 how much would I use?? How much sand??

Thanks.

I have 8x8 and ordered a ton of sand and it was plenty of sand.

I love the sand floor! I put a half bag of pine shavings in there too for them to play around in.

They scratch around in it so much, it's like a giant cat box! They just bury any poo around!

Go to frequently asked questions it is the first forum. There is alot of info on De and Sweet PDZ. I had to order my DE online and since its heavy the shipping can be alot . I wish I could find it here but can't. I get Sweet PDZ at a farm feed store so I can get a 50 lb bag and not pay shipping. ( its pretty heavy to).
