a question for everyone who keeps chickens/ducks/geese etc. . . . .

I tend to get a little offended walking out to the chicken yard. The feathered dinosaurs only look at your hands to see what might be in them. To heck with your face or whatever. It's only important if food is in the offing.

many thanks for all the replies. i only asked because ive been accused of 'starving' my chickens by the local park ranger who patrols the area. he says every time he drives past and throws his lunch scraps out the truck into our field, they all come running as if we've not fed them and they're starving. ive told him not to be so ridiculous but he's adamant my chickens are neglected(!)

so im going to print this off and show him how normal it is that they run when they see food!!!

Mine don't.

Either the Ranger is teasing you or he does not know much about chickens.

I assume your hens are laying eggs. Starving chickens won't lay eggs--nature needs bounty to reproduce.

Tell him this and give him a dozen eggs.

Dare him to tell you they came from neglected hens after he enjoys some of the best eggs in the world!

If they didn't I would have a heart attack. Food or no food, I get the joy of seeing that silly looking wobbly jog every time. Makes my heart all warm and gooey feelin!
