I am not very knowledgeable about minerals etc. That is why I am asking. Please excuse my ignorance. Dolomite is a type of lime. It is very high in Calcium. It also has quite a lot of magnesium. I feed it to goats to balance their copper. I was wondering if it would be possible to offer this to chickens for calcium? What percent of oyster shell is calcium? If you have any knowledge on the subject I would appreciate your help.

Magnesium is a necessary nutrient for poultry just as it is for us. But only in measured amounts. Too much can be as bad as too little which is the case with dolomitic limestone. Too much magnesium to serve as a calcium source.

.....Alan.
