This morning I was working on the chicken coop, trying to clean and winterize it etc. While I was working on it, I let the chickens free range. Every once in a while 2 different chickens started pecking at the jeans I was wearing...Does anyone know chicken behavior enough, to possibly know what they trying to tell me? I'm just a newbie to raising chickens, but I thought they were mostly attracted to red or shiny objects...

Also one of the chickens, the most friendly one by the way. kept coming over and sticking her beak in what I was doing at ground level. ( she is also one of the chickens that kept pecking at my jeans) I figured I would ask her to get me the hammer, since she seemed to want to help. But she just ignored me, and acted like she had no idea what I was asking...:p

This simply means they enjoy your company, find your feet and legs quite interesting, and they want to say thank you for winterizing the coop! Lol seriously I have a few who act the same way. If I need to move them to another part of the yard, I just get out the rake, make some scratching sounds in the dirt, and they come running! They love the poop bucket when I clean, they love my toenails when I paint them, and they especially love the garden watering pail (for no reason other than I am using it at the time). They are nosy little things and just want to be involved I guess  let me know if you train them on tool retrieval...we could be onto something here...:p

Chickens are just naturally curious creatures and it sounds like you have very tame ones. Mine peck at my clothes and shoes, help me paint the outbuildings and fix the fences. I have to watch that I don't cut off one of their toes when I'm trying to dig a hole because there are always 2-3 in the hole or digging thru the dirt. I have to make sure to keep all the little screws and things in a pocket or they would get into that as well. They are kind of like toddlers and always want to see what you're doing or if you have a tidbit to eat.
