We have a group of 3 month old blue cochins that are absolutely beautiful. However, today we noticed that two of them have some red in their plumage. Not much...just a dime size spot of red/brown on a otherwise blue wing feather!
Not being anything close to an expert on genetics we are slightly puzzled. Is this a common occurance or are these blues not as "pure" as we first thought?

It would be a DQ if you plan to show them as blues.

If you only get one or two feathers, pluck them and see if they grow back blue. However, at three months I am going to guess that you will see a lot of red coming in over the next few months. If that's the case you need to figure out if there is a specific variety that they match, or if they are just not good quality from a colour standpoint.
