A rainbow of eggs to hatch in July!

I had never heard of a wool hen before, that's so interesting! You totally learn something new every day on here!

Love the pallet brooder, my husband is supposed to be helping me build a new hen house from pallets, but it hasn't happened yet!
Give him a new power tool! That seems to work pretty well on mine!:highfive:

2 have pipped! it's one of the pink eggs and one tan egg! I can't get a good pic through the window of the bator so I will have to wait to post pics of the chicks when the hatch is over. SO EXCITED!!!!:wee

It's early day 21 and we have 2 chicks out with 2 more pipped so far! And one of the pipped eggs is one that was cracked so at least one of them made it! I will post the final count with fluffed up pics once the hatch is over!

Number 3 is out and 2 more eggs have internally pipped. I can find no movement in the other 4 but will just leave them in and see.

So it's been a rough hatch. We had the bator get unplugged, eggs cracked and then today right in the middle of the hatch my cat found the new spot I hid the incubator in and he attacked it and unplugged it again! I was out so I didn't know and by the time I checked I thought the only survivors were the 2 that had already dried off. 1 more was wet and I thought dead and I thought for sure the other chicks still hatching were dead. I had heard of other people reviving recently dead or almost dead chicks so I tried it. I dried the little chick off and gently blew onto it's beak and it started to move again! I kept it in my bra and that little trooper is now in the brooder with the other 2! AND I have 2 more eggs hatching out as we speak! I can't believe it! This was my first hatch and everything that could go wrong did but it still looks like at least 5 out of 9 have made it! After all this I am not giving up on the other eggs right off either. After these next 2 finish hatching out I am going to leave the other eggs in the bator for a few days. After all this I am not counting anyone out! Sooooo happy! The chick with the chick with the cool marking on it's back is my little miracle chick. It's smaller than the other 2 and had a hard start but has fought hard and proven it has what it takes to make it this far. I have a feeling this chick is going to be very special to me. Any newbies reading this, if there is one thing to take away from the story of my first hatch is to never panic and never give up! :wee:jumpy:love

OMG so I just went out to check on the new chicks in the brooder on the porch and got the shock of my life! These chicks who had such a rough start and are less than 24 hours old are HUNTING! Yes HUNTING! The heat light is attracting moths and these little dino's are successfully hunting and eating them! And guess who got it on video! Seriously, I don't think anyone would believe me if I had not gotten it on video! Chickens just get cooler and cooler by the day!

Oh my goodness, you did have a rough go of incubating eggs but am so happy to read that you did have some success. 2 and 1/2 months into incubating and I have 45 new babies, chickens, guineas and ducks. I restarted one of my incubators on July 4th and the other one on July 9 with hopes of more babies by the end of the month.

Make sure to offer them chick grit if they keep eating bugs, they will need help digesting the moths. But if they eat only starter/grower feed then they don't need grit. And congrats, they are really cute!
I didn't know that thanks! I don't have any chick grit though. Is there a home made substitute I can give them? Cause I don't think I can stop them from eating the bugs!

Homemade grit? Yep. Just get some sand or dirt from out in the yard. That's what all my birds use from the time their Mommas bring them down from the nest for Ground Schooling, till they are of old age.
:thumbsup
