I have a 7 week old Buff Orpington that we thought was a hen, but turned out to be a roo. We searched the internet for egg farms in our area & finally found one that would rehome him. I am very grateful that's he's found a good home, but I'm also concerned ... He's just a baby, how will he know where his bed is?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. No problem. We like to answer questions here as well. Your BO cockerel will be fine. He will adjust to his new environment and it will become imprinted on him as his new home. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Thank you for the reassuring words. I'm worrying worse than a mother hen. I know my kids will ask me the exact same question tomorrow & I have no idea how to answer them.

It's not a ridiculous question. It just means your birds mean more to you than an egg or dinner. You have a lot of empathy and there is nothing wrong with that. Be good to yourself

How nice you took the time to find him a good home. No question is ridiculous, especially when it comes from caring.

Don't worry, it's easy to grow fond of these wonderful feathered creatures and natural to worry about them when we give them up. I know I do! Would it be possible for you and your children to visit the farm that your cockerel moved to, to see how he's doing?

Thank you guys for the community support. We took him to a beautiful ranch today where he can free range during the day & be safely locked up at night. The wonderful people who adopted him welcomed my children to come visit whenever they wanted to, which was nice & we brought his favorite snack (watermelon) with us to hopefully make the transition easier. They assured us that instinctually he will just know to follow the other juvenile birds into bed & that it wont be an issue at all... It makes sense, but I still worry. Thank you all again for your support!
