A Roo??!! Oh NO

That sucks. He is by far one of our favorites, most friendly and marked one.

What do you see that you are sure he is the roo? I just would like know know for future reference.

You can actually tell by his comb...it's very wide and red at seven weeks. Tail feathers can be too deceiving since many pullets molt out a long feather or two at a certain point.
Pea combed cockerels get their 3 rows of "peas" early on, while the girls dont till they are much closer to laying age.

My first guess was that colorful EE then I see that's what others like Speckledhen were saying too. I'm sorry, I'm sure someone would love to have such a beautiful bird! I wish I could have him:) He's gorgeous!

Yep, the multicolored EE is your roo. I picked him out before reading the other posts. It's not just his comb (although, 7 week old EE pullets do not have combs that large), it's also the feathering coloring/patterning - definitely a roo and no need to wait.

I agree with everyone else on here, your beautiful EE is the roo. Are you not able to keep him where you are or you just don't want a roo?

I would love to keep him. But I am on an acre lot and my issue would arise with the noise ordinance. My neighbors were fine with me having chickens as long as no Roos.

So I guess I am going to have to find a good home for him.

I agree, that is a roo, sorry that you have to let him go.

I agree, the saddle feathering was what I saw.

I also got surprised when one of my hens turned out to be a roo. I can't keep him for the same reasons - neighbors said OK, but no roo. I'm not sure how to find a home for him, I'm in Raleigh, NC - anyone nearby and want him? He's a beautiful Barred Rock. I could take him back to the guy I bought the chicks from, but I'm afraid he'd end up as supper!
