A Roo' Recovering From Dog Attack Is Now "Yawning"???Help me, please?

Hello, some of you know that I've posted on here recently that I've had a dog attack happen inside my pen and chicken house. Well, I have two that were injured and are currently surviving. One is a hen but she is going to have to be euthanized, she doesn't get up, she flops about if I put her on the ground but she does eat and drink still and is alert...

Now, this morning I go out there and my recovering Golden Polish Roo' is sitting on the ground and "yawning", what is that? Is there something stuck in him or does this mean he is going to die? He does it almost every 10 seconds or so. I am almost at my wit's end... Since this has happened it has gotten to where I don't even like to go out and visit my chickens anymore... Please help me, I honest to God don't know what to do...

And how do I euthanize them if this is what needs to be done? Is there another way besides cutting their head off, using a gun or twisting there neck? Is there a more humane way?

Sorry for all of the questions ya'll... I really feel like I don't know what to do and am just sick over this...

I'm certainly no expert but I've seen almost all of my chickens do a yawn type gesture. They kind of crane their necks and open up real wide and it looks like a yawn...seems normal to me.

Mine did that before because she was eating feathers. Just keep an eye on him. If he's friendly enough try to look in his mouth. Can you keep him seperate or bring him inside to monitor him?

Thank you both... I thought of bringing him inside, he seemed to be doing so well since I let him out of the hospital pen but now today it seems he has taken a step backward... (*sigh*)

I've been doing some research on here by searching, "chicken yawn" and found a wealth of info. regarding gape worm...but I dunno if that is what is going on. From reading the posts I need to look down his throat - Eeeeek!

So this was a roo that was recovering nicely from the dogattack and only started the yawning when he got outside? (When did it start? ) I am unclear on the time frame of events and details here...
When was the last time you wormed him and with what?

Hello dlhunicorn, yes - this is the one. He's a Golden Polish and he just started this today... That dog attack happened a week ago and he joined the rest of the flock about midweek. He does eat, drink, move about but I find him sitting often and now he does this "yawning" thing. I've never given any wormer meds. to him or the rest of my flock.

As always, any advice you can give is appreciated!

yawning does not necessarily mean gapeworm however if he has never been wormed and is for the rest recovered from the attack (stress will often be followed by parasites) then it might be a good idea to worm your birds... I would bring him in and see if this makes a difference in the yawning, (this would indicate something else)...
