a rooster has adopted my family and we want to make him a pet and give him a good home - help -

hi everyone,
we live in georgia and have 4 cats and 2 small dogs. we have 2 acres of land. a rooster started showing up on our property about 2 months ago. we thought he belonged to our next door neighbor. turns out the rooster was apparently dropped off in our neighborhood by someone who did not want him anymore. we are sure they thought he would find someone in our area who would take him in. this is country living and everyone has acreage and many farm animals.
we would like to make this rooster a pet. have already named him benjamin.
we don't know much about roosters but once had a friend with a farm that had two as pets. i have to tell you my husband and i are a little afraid of this rooster but want to make this work.
anyone out there that can get us started on our rooster education?
my husband and i are in our sixties and we treat our animals like children. we love animals!

Why are you scared? The only way you can make this work to keep him as a pet, is if he is already tame.

Roosters do have a certain attitude that may make them not the best pet for children. However, this may be a way to start your new flock. Get a coop built, buy you some hens, and put them together. Although, if you live in the city you better make sure you can have chickens.

If you don't want the expense or challenge of owning a rooster, I recommend you find a farm who may be in need of a rooster.

I agree get him a few girls to hang out with and even a small coop would work and throw lots of treats. None of my roosters want me to hold them or anything but they aren't mean either. They take care of the girls and I just love them. But mine aren't so great for pets cause I can't catch the stinkers.

All my hens on the other hand let me pick them right up. I'm pretty sure they think I'm the head rooster around the place lol
