Saum Creek
Songster
It's the same story as everyone else's, I guess: my favorite blue cuddly chick turned out to be a rooster. And, like all the others before him, he was the very best of all roosters until one day he just wasn't. I can't even tell how many times he's flogged me by now - I have a scar from a puncture wound when part of his spur broke off in my knee cap. I hobbled around for a week contemplating murder afterwards but still couldn't bring myself to get rid of him.
But I don't have any relationship with my hens anymore because he doesn't like it when I'm in the run. Plus I live on the campus of a K-8 and can't let my chooks out to free-range bc I don't trust Barb around kiddos.
I just want to go back to when keeping chickens was a joy and not so stressful so I have lucky found a really nice vegetarian farmer only a mile away who is adopting my boy for his new free-ranging flock of ladies. He's even promised updates and if it doesn't work out, he is going to call me instead of rehoming/culling.
He's going to be happy. I'm just going to be sad about it for a while.
