A sad day

It is with a sad heart that I announce that Sissy, our favorite goose several days ago. Here she is with David Brauner. We hatched her 2 years ago and she really bonded with us. She was blind in one eye, but got along well.She hatched out 5 goslings last year, but had not laid an egg yet this year. We suspect that she might have had a stroke last week. Perhaps another one did her in last night. RIP Sissy girl.

She would sit on our lap, and "chew" on our hair for as long as we would let her. If either of us sat down outside, she would come over as soon as she noticed us.

I understand how hard this is for you. I had a pair of sisters that are the same way and we lost one of them to a predator a couple of weeks ago. Needless to say, we are now overly protective of the surviving sister. We get so darn attached to our pets and it hurts to the very core when we lose them.

Oh this is so sad, and in this time of new life. I am hoping that if you do have any of her surviving offspring that she will live in them, and in them or in her future descendants that you will have one that will be a sweet as Sissy was. I am also wondering since she didn't lay any eggs yet if she might have become egg bound.

The thought about being egg bound did cross our minds. We will never know for sure. We do have her offspring, but none of our flock are as friendly and loving as Sissy was. I suspect that is because we hatched her so she was used to us from her first day out of the egg.
