A Sample Plan to submit for selling eggs to a natural food store

Good stuff! Thanks for all the leg work that you do and are willing to share with others! Even if the rules are not the same in every state, you have at least given the peeps a direction to go in their own backyards without reinventing the wheel.

I'm still going to sell eggs and birds but I think I'm going to pass on the store that offered to buy mine. The tax process has to much jargon for me to wrap my head around so I'm gonna say small, enjoy it, and fly under the radar. I can't make near as much at wholesale anyway.

I don't know if it is polite to ask, but I will anyway. Can you give us a hint as to how much you get in the various markets?

It's gonna depend on your feed bill PatS...but I priced mine the average Nation wide. I looked at all the big outfits that could be our competition and they are charging $6.00 per dozen and then they charge a shipping charge...So $6.00 here local is good, right? Now...this whole GMO free feed thing I got myself into...then having to supplement the girls with meat, or anything with B12 in it that is organic or natural...Well that is running up a bill and a HEADACHE.... I am getting more and more customers who are the recovering from something, and because I have a condition...I shouldn't have to pay $6.00 for tiny eggs (that I just worked so hard to provide to you). UHG. I love my customers, but folks, we have to stand up for ourselves. We work hard to keep the birds safe, well fed, well cared for, etc. GMO Free feed plus supplements to make it complete for an obligate insectivore (meaning you have to feed 1 part meat meal to 3 parts of the GMO Free from Ranchway anyway) is expensive and time consuming...It is going up from $6.00..to $7.00.

Putting half the covey on regular turkey starter/game bird formula from my local produce Ranchway in Colorado. (read prior post about wild bird seed, fruits, veggies/greens/sprouts/ mealworms that they get WITH that and you have one fantastically fed Quail. Worth $6.00. and even more if you have to order special feed. That is my thought on it guys and gals. We stick by each other. If you can sell em all day for $5. I might copy you!!!! I want them out there and I want them to be mine that are bought!

Go for it! Let's do this!!!

ok just a quick question for you... where would you recommend finding good but inexpensive egg crates for the quail eggs? I'm planning on taking some eggs and meat to the local farmers market soon, but my eggs just pile up and fill the incubators right now LOL. (and the dogs are having a field day with boiled ones too)

I agree with Twocrowsranch, those are an awesome cartons and I too have bought from them and had most excellent service from them and will do biz with them again soon.

One suggestion that I may throw out there, that has worked for me, now that I'm just getting into the specialty markets in my area. I have had better luck marketing my eggs in a clear 15 count cartons. It displays well in the cooler sections and the shop owners like the novelty of being able to see the spotted eggs inside. I do give them the choice, but so far that's been the product they have choose so far. The cartons also have a flat place on top to place mandatory labels...the con, for the mandatory nutrition label that goes on the bottom has a little issue sticking to the non flat bottom.

Kahlertm, Thank you for your kind words and keeping me straight!

Darn it Model_A, you got me hungry wanting my pre-midnight snack...and I already am rotund enough!
