Yesterday I learned that a friend died in a tragic car accident as she was driving home from a camping trip. Apparently, she was negotiating a blind curve, saw a stopped car ahead that was waiting to turn left, and braked so hard that they locked. As a result, her Civic fishtailed into the opposing lane, slamming into a pickup. A passenger in the truck suffered a minor injury. My friend died at the scene. I hope to God she didn't suffer.
While it's not certain if cell phones played a role, let this be a gentle reminder to please please please think twice about texting and talking on your phone while driving. There are other lives at risk, not just your own and it's too easy to overestimate one's capabilities at the wheel.
May my friend rest in peace.
