A Stinker In Lockdown!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ms.cluckling :

what happens when an egg explodes? will it kill the other eggs?

The bacteria can contaminate the other eggs and kill them.

no, they didn't slosh around.
So it SHOULD smell like rotten food!
I haven't found the baddie yet. I'm going to do a sniff check on the remaining eggs. If none smell then you're probably right about the "hatching smell"
Curse my newbie-ness...
Thanks for putting up with me

okay, I checked some more eggs, and had to stop again.
I only have 2 eggs left to check (4, really, but 2 are rockers, so i won't touch them), an so far I have found no leakers. I am praying that my welsummer egg isn't the one that's bad...

I agree w/ LareePQG - Take a Deep Breath! In & Out! Now the egg(s) that aren't fully developed by now should be tossed.

I have done 2 hatches. Both times I was to chicken to trust my candling skills and never removed any eggs. No explosions! I know they happen, but I don't think they are all that common. Or maybe I am really lucky! I did notice a humid pungent smell at the end. It never alarmed me but, I just figured that birth normally smells a little:) I was such a nervous wreck the 1st 18 days with temps and all that at lockdown I just went with it!! HAVE FUN- GOOD LUCK!!

Thanks so much! All the eggs are good.
Thank you all for your quick responses!
I'll post pictures of the hatch when it happens!

Oh man thank you for admitting this. I have the same problem and I always feel so guilty! Getting better at it though. Realizing a dead egg really is a dead egg....

Good luck on the hatch!
