So, if anyone has been following our saga of Lucky, the one winged bird, she has healed quite nicely (if you haven't, basically what happened is our next door neighbors have a wolf hybrid and a 3 foot fence, so the animal goes foraging for goodies in the early morn, picked up this red hen-probably a free-ranger, and took it home to her pups. The pups ate off one wing right up past the drummette area leaving bone exposed. We rescued the poor thing and have been nursing and caring for it for months). The other day DH and I were cleaning out her crate-she's indoor only right now, and Lucky took a plummet to freedom off the front deck. When we picked her up, we noticed we couldn't feel the stump or the seperation of the joint where the wing and torso meet. It would seem that her body knew what was best and as she healed, her skin enclosed the whole injured section of wing into her torso area and her left side is completely streamlined. How cool is that!?! We think we're going to integrate her with baby chicks next spring so that they get use to the fact that she has only one wing and won't harrass her because she's different...

She's so spoiled, she's entitled. We're looking for a large Parrot cage for her to live in until next spring. Thanks for your comments!
