a talk about DP/dog proof coon traps

my friend (who is a big time trapper) say the best part of the beaver (besides roasting it whole) is the back legs says if done right taste just like pork.

muskrat he told me you can not go wrong eating them, my great uncle ate it once said it was really good.

and bear is supposed to be good if it has not eaten fish or garbage, just caught to be careful with that trichinosis.

I'll have to find someone that traps beaver. If I can get a fresh one, I'll try roasting it. I'll just have to do some research. I plan to try muskrat if I ever get the chance.

Now, back to the DP trap. What do you use for bait?

i will use either cat food or sun flower seeds (the type you can buy in the 40 lb bag for wild birds.)

If you use a decent lure and put the trap “on” the trail just about any bait will work.

For bait you can really use anything from little muffins to molasses. Rule of them is if it’s sweet and not good for you it will work on a raccoon. Lol
