I was thinking about adding a third breed. I got Turkens, 1 rooster 2 hens. White Silkies, 1 rooster 2 hens. A goose and 3 mutts that don't lay anymore. If I was going to be efficient I would have to kill the goose, and the mutts, but it would be sad. Anyway I was thinking about adding a third breed that would be sustainable. I'm not looking for profit just to cover costs a little. Feed has been going up every year and we never made money off the chickens so it's been brutal.

I don't know if i should pick breed by breed, or just get a rare bird package from mcmurray and let luck sort it out.

I would like to be able to sell the eggs and make some of the money back. Thing being how they are i got half a mind to butcher the entire flock.

Are my EE's the exception? I only get 2 eggs on average every day out of four EE's. My BA's and BO's are excellent layers. I get enough from egg money to pay for layer feed and chick feed for the new 21 chicks that are now seven weeks old.

Im considering adding 2 breeds since the minumim from the hatchery is 25. maybe 4 males and the rest hens. EEs sound good. And maybe a rare breed.
