Why this cruel way of stocking the shelves of our local supermarkets with eggs should be banned and done away with is not hard to imagine. Thousands, even millions of chickens have little to no life at all. Why does this have to be reality? This thread is dedicated to all those chickens who live like this just so we can have scrambled eggs for breakfast, and to all those people who make it their life goal to save as many as they can. I plan to save many of these hens and give them a life. I have a big coop, plenty of space, and more than enough love to give them. So why not give it?

These hens are prevented from doing what they naturally are born to do. Simple things that give them pleasure. Like scratching around in the grass, dust bathing, making a nest to lay her eggs, and being able to just feel the sunshine on her wings. The next time you have space in your coop, please consider rescuing a battery hen. This just isn't right. It's not natural. It's harming innocent creatures for our own pleasure and enjoyment.

If you've saved a few of these hens you can post your stories here. If not, I'd appreciated it even if you just showed your support. Even if you can only save one or two, it will still make a difference.

Special thanks to everyone on BYC who have made it their goal to save so many of these hens. Thank you for giving your love, and giving them a life.

I agree they live in awful places, we rescued 50 a few years ago and they didn't know how to act like chickens..... they just sat there and feather plucked each other. they were so sunburnt when we got them because they had been ousted from their cages into a big dirt pen with no shade to make room for the new younger pullets. it took weeks to get them to act like chickens, to bath, seek shade and perch, things we consider normal they didn't know what to do. we did loose some which was expected but those who did survive treated us with happy clucking, love and nice yummy eggs. they began to look like chickens, act like chickens and to enjoy the simple pleasures of bathing, worm hunting etc. they were great, and so I plan to get a few more ( not 50 since I don't have the space anymore but a few ) once I get my new run set up. But its good to know that there are people out there like you advocating on their behalf and saving them as well

It's a wonderful thing you did, saving 50. So good to know they have a wonderful home now. Thanks for sharing your story.

I agree this should be banned, it's one of the main reason I want my own chickens so I can give them a decent life. They give us so much and these people treat them like dirt

This goes for other animals too.

I've never rescued any of these chicken but I'd be very proud of myself if I did, I cheer at whoever did

We need more people on this thread!

Indeed, chickens lovers should all have something to say against this.
I'd be interested to know the procedure you guys took to find these chickens... trough some contacts or..? I'm very not informed on the subject, I don't even know if chicken are stocked that way here in canada

Very true. It is the height of cruelty. I'm glad at least a few people acknowledge how absolutely ABOMNIBLE it is, and I really hope that there will be millions of views on this thread, and many, many, many posts. I haven't saved any yet, but I intend to in the summer. At the moment I have my hands full with the hens I have. There is a battery farm near us, but I wouldn't know about Canada as I live in South Africa.

Last year we saved 4 hens, when we first got them they were missing feathers and very weak. We ended up losing 3 of them but we still have our cute Feathercup, she didn't know how to forage for food, dust bath or anything you'd think a chicken would do. she has since gained back her feathers and loves to dust bath! she has also become my favorite girl. We love letting our hens be free and in return they give us big eggies! They are heathy and happy and hope others learn about whats really going on when they buy eggs.

Maybe it's best I don't find one, I'd be tempted to burn it down
