:: A Thread Dedicated to Battery Hens ::

Maybe it's best I don't find one, I'd be tempted to burn it down

grrr, if only people would stop buying their eggs.

after releasing the birds I hope.....

my mother had the contacts and set it up, im not sure who they were though but I went to help pick them up

Last year we saved 4 hens, when we first got them they were missing feathers and very weak. We ended up losing 3 of them but we still have our cute Feathercup, she didn't know how to forage for food, dust bath or anything you'd think a chicken would do. she has since gained back her feathers and loves to dust bath! she has also become my favorite girl. We love letting our hens be free and in return they give us big eggies! They are heathy and happy and hope others learn about whats really going on when they buy eggs.

So glad you saved her! It looks like she has a wonderful home now. I can't tell you how happy I am to see that there are people out there who care, as well as myself. All these hens should be able to taste freedom everyday, and be able to do all things hens normally do. Sadly only a few get that chance....as of course none of us can rescue them all...

Hi everyone im Dawn :)
I have an ex battery hen called Queenie.
This is her when we first got her about
400
3-4 month ago.
400

She was thin and tatty looking and it made my heart bleed seeing her like that. But after the first day she had let Rocky know she was the boss and they are inseperable now he follows her everywhere it sooo sweet and he sits inside the coop when she lays her egg. I get an egg a day from her and she sings her little song for us whens shes done.
This is her now with Rocky.
I got her from a sanctuary for battery hens near me. She lives up to her name shes the Queen and she is so proud loving and sweet we love her very much and im so happy we got her :)

Thanks for sharing! What a sweet story and what a sweet hen you have. It seems like Rocky loves her very much!

Thanks ladyBroody. He does indeed but who could blame him :) I only have four chickens Queenie and Rocky and two buff orpingtons Ginger and Goldie and are a nice happy family now they are all together. I dont really have anymore room for more or i would get my ex battery hens :( but my hubby has said that when the sad day comes when Queenie is no longer with us (which i hope wont be for many years) we will get another one. Unless i win the lotto then i could get a place with a lot of land and have my own ex battery hen sanctuary :)
