A Tribute to our gone but never forgotten Ducks..

I'm so sorry about your Penelope...She was beautiful. :hugs

I think one of my biggest regrets is about Cashew, one of my first ducks. What really got me into ducks was when I tried to rescue a little duckling that had some sort of problem. I don't know what it was, and I've seen another duckling with it in the wild Muscovies around here, but both sadly died.

After poor Bubbles died, my mom told me we could get some ducklings to raise. Despite my sadness at losing Bubbles, I was excited! We found a breeder and bought two Muscovy ducklings. We named them Aspen and Cashew.

While we were trying to build a coop for them, we had them outside one night and their pen had the tiniest gap in it. I'm now kicking myself for being so neglecting and not securing their coop better. A raccoon got Cashew when she was only a few months old. We found her behind some bamboo in our yard and buried her.

I still feel regret when I think of how un-knowledgeable I was back then. I'm glad I've learned, even if it was the hard way. Never underestimate predators.

My old ipod butchered the quality of these photos, but here's a few of Cashew.

I think Cashew is on the left...

She was so gorgeous...Wish I could have gotten to see her all grown up and fully feathered.

That's so sad. I have lost Ducklings being I breed Ducks..Although losing Penelope was very difficult for me. She was my girl. :hugs
I totally understand how sad the loss is. Ducks are like feathered Puppies..:hugs

Thanks. I can't believe how sad I am over losing her. She was a special Duck...:hugs

With creatures of all sorts some just have a greater impact upon us. I lost a dog close to 50 years ago that still brings a tear to my eyes. :hugs

Penelope's Story of her Life.
She was hatched and raised in Northern Alberta. Was in a huge pen with lots of Ducks. My Pal bought her with a few other Calls. He kept her out on a pond for two years and wintered them in a barn. I had bought a Call Drake Duckling from him and wanted a White Hen. Took me a year before he finally sold her to me. Penelope and Lucky created Pandora and 4 other Ducklings for me. She hatched them out and was always an amazing Momma. I was raising Appleyard and sold all those to concentrate on the Calls that quickly stole my heart. Penelope and Lucky are the reasons behind my addiction. :gig..:hugs
I sold Lucky and bought Casanova to better my bloodline. I still have Penelope's daughters though and a grandson I was lucky enough to get eggs from a friend and hatch out.
She is gone but her blood is thick in my Flock...:hugs

Yes...I still cry over my old Pug Kizzy and she has been gone about 12 years. Having them is great..:wee
Losing them is awful..:hit. Certain ones are deep within our hearts..:hugs

I can't tell all those stories. There has been too many for me since I love critters and keep many. :th
Maybe I should of started this as a Tribute thread to all our lost Animals...:idunno..Not just Ducks. :th

I’ve also had a loss too.:hit This little duck is the fella which had got me into ducks. He was an orphan that had lost it’s mother. So we cared for it and we looked on the internet about them and the next day he became really attached to us. The poor little thing sadly died that day and we buried it in our back garden and to this day it is still there. And it’s not the duckling in my profile pic. It’s name was Quackers and we always remember him. (P.S I’m new so..... Hello!)
