A very bad day

Today my chicken shed caught fire and wiped out half my flock. It went up like a tinder box and was horrifying. I thought they were all dead for sure but then found one alive under the porch, then two more, then another later in the day. Somehow the meanest rooster and a few others survived. I’m monitoring them inside my place in a pen. It’s absolutely gut wrenching. I don’t have a shelter for them so they will be inside until I can figure something out. Please say a prayer for me and the flock. My heart hurts

Oh VeeKay, I'm so sorry! I'm retired and my eight hens are almost my entire occupation lately. I don't know how I would handle something like that. But, learn from it and you'll move on, but you can never forget. I hurt for you.

Praying you can find everything you need for your chickens that survived. From coop to waterers for very little cost.

So sorry to hear this. That is one of my greatest fears. Please take care and I know you will find an idea for another coop.

Winter is tough. By posting your tragedy you may have saved many others from going through the same thing. I put a large pool liner over my coop trying to add protection against freezing rain sleet and miserable cold temps. When I checked after the storm the roof was sagging from the the weight of the accumulated ice and could of easily caved in causing a similar tragedy. Sometimes it's just impossible to predict outcomes. The important thing is, you were doing the best for your chickens. Sorry this happened.
