Ok, so i've been attempting the gluten free diet.
Eggs are supposed to be gluten free, BUT, gluten is supposed to be able to pass through breast milk.
That said would the layer pellets (wheat based) pass on to the egg too?
I'd ask on the gluten free forums but they don't know anything about chickens, haha
the same chicken eats the same pellets and the meat is fine. what about the egg???

Our allergist says that it is not passed (we are GF/DF) however my husband has a coworker who cannot eat grain fed beef (among other things) due to the corn in the grain passed into the meat, so if it a major allergy then I would say you are going to have to determine that by experimentation but if this is just for diets sake then I would not worry about the minuscule amount that may or may not be transferred. Hope that helps, personally I would confirm any diet changes with my allergist just to be safe.

Oh no it's not that bad. at least not yet. I am just starting this so if it did have any I probably wouldn't even know.
I wouldn't even have asked myself the question until I realized I had tossed some spaghetti out to the chickens. lol. then realized they eat wheat, Duh...
So I'm the only one on it now. I need to figure out what to feed two picky eaters. without having to buy specialty items such as GF flour or cereal.....
major life changes come in small steps

Honestly we tried at first to use the gf flour, breads and noodle items but they just don't compare to wheat. I found after eliminating them for a few months then letting the kids try one of those items they were better received, fortunately there are many GF recipes that are fantastic but factor in no eggs and dairy that gets a little tricky for us. Go cold turkey unless you just can't with the family, keep meals simple with fruit, veggies and meat then eventually add in a GF pasta dish or bread and honestly if they are toast eaters the bread tastes fine but for a sandwich my kids hated the rice flour flavors that most recipes have. Good luck on your endeavor, it is a tough journey at first but it gets easier.
