I have to warn you before you make the same mistake I did!! If your heat light for your brooder and/or coop is shatter proof it will kill your birds!! Shatter proof light bulbs are coted with teflon, when teflon is heated it emits a gas deadly to all birds!! some company's have warnings on box but most do not. You can find more info online.

Bottom line = DO NOT USE SHATTER PROOF LIGHT BULBS!!!!!!!

Good warning! I hope you didn't learn from sad experience.

Try this instead of any heat lamp at all...hundreds of people have and will never go back to lamps.

WOW! Good to know! and @Blooie thanks for the link! I have heard about using heating pads, but never have actually seen a brooder set up! I hacth every spring and just may have to give it a try! Your chicks definitely look comfy and happy!

You are so very welcome. They were happy and healthy, and are now paying me back with eggs! I don't raise them in the house anymore at all. Get 'em or hatch 'em, and raise them right outside from the start.

Ah, stress free chick raising! Gotta love it!

Ditto what Blooie said. I can't say enough good about MHP. I was hesitant to try it, but Blooie coaxed and coached me through my first time, and after the first 24 hours I was hooked on the heating pad brooder. I'll never NEVER NEVAH use a heat lamp again, unless I am brooding more than 25 chicks at a time. And even if that situation ever occurs, I now have 2 MHP, so would do 2 pads instead of a heat lamp.
