ABA leg bands question.

I recently got a set of 100 ABA seemless leg bands to put on my bantam cochin chicks. I was wondering when you are suppose to put them on for the first time. The site said 8-12 weeks, but with bantam cochins I'm afraid that will be too long with their feet feathers. Does anyone else here use ABA leg bands? When do you try to put them on?

Thanks!

I don't really pay attention to "weeks", I just slip them on and wait to see if they fall off. Some of the same birds won't fuss with them on, and others will have the band off in seconds. It really is a trial and error process. With the feather legged birds, I always try to adjust the feathers as they grow in by moving the band up or down on the leg.
It's better to start sooner than later. First to get the bird accustomed to being handled, and second and most important, once the foot has grown too large, you will never get the ABA band on, and have to use the metal strap type band, which defeats the whole purpose.
Good luck!

I tried just a bit ago to put the band on my 3 1/2 week old chicks. The band went on easy and it took them a bit to to get it off. I'll just keep trying till they stay on like you said. I think it will be another two weeks though before they stay on...but I just try ever day in case so I won't miss the time frame on accident. Thanks!
