Abandoned

This chicken has been abandoned on a local hiking trail (not near any houses). Is it male or female? I thought female but the lady who found it keeps calling it a rooster. Also can you tell breed from this pic?

He/she seems nervous and flighty they’ve been trying to catch it for a few days.

It's a hen. Poor thing needs a new home. She may be flighty, but she's too heavy to fly well.

Whatever it is needs water. See how it’s comb looks sort of wilted?

Try using a cage with and open door and food in it. Triger door to close as hen steps on lever. Like a live trap. Looks like a Black star hen.

If you have a pet carrier, try putting some water and food inside, and see if that will attract her. You may be able to trap her inside while she's eating. Otherwise, I would recommend a fishing net, but be careful not to hurt her.

Pretty magnificent bird! Judging by the size of that comb and those wattles, I would say rooster but others say different. It's hard to see the hackle and saddle feathers from the picture. My Black Copper Marans hens dont have quite such a magnificent comb!
