I posted on here a little over a year ago because I had bought 10 chicks and a prefab coop that was NOT built for 10 chickens. I did not know about prefab coops at the time. Once I was really looking into how to make my coop better, I was like...oh my gosh, now I have to figure out how to expand their coop! I was looking into buying a shed and converting it. That is when I realized I own an old house in my backyard that no one has lived in in years. I converted it to a coop! We now have 25 chickens living in harmony. Their run is about 400 sq feet, and I have it attached to the front door. I have the back door opened for ventilation and covered the doorway with hardware cloth. The windows are also the same way. They have loved it for the last year!

Oh, wow! What kind of house is it? I have thought of transforming one of these mobile homes into a multi room coop, but have kinda put the idea up for now. Do you have any pictures of the outside too? Also, is there any power going to it? If the wires are all good, that'd be great for running brooders and heated waterers.

Just a regular old house! The “back room” (I assume it was the living room/den is huge and has 2 doors leading to outside. It seems like it must have been an add on to the house. The chickens only have access to that room. I have never measured it, but I would say it’s something like 30ft x 15ft. (?) There is unfortunately no electricity. I grew up in the house I live in now (dad passed sway and left me the house). And the “abandoned” house was abandoned much longer before I ever lived there as a child. So I wouldn’t trust the wires in the house to be safe to cut on electricity! I use my old prefab coop as a brooder and/or “hospital” because I can run the extension cord to it.
I don’t really have any pictures of the outside because it is an EYE SORE 😂
