Abnormal lookilng eggs

How much calcium are you providing?
So maybe just the one bird is not processing the calcium properly?
Are they 'dull' eggs consistent with this one bird?

I'm really curious about what the deal is....tho the egg is kind of cool looking....Terra Cotta.

I lost 3 Marans to the neighbors dog last summer and this is the only one old enough to lay. Her eggs are sometimes normal and sometimes dry looking. They get plenty of calcium and maybe too much. They have access to oyster shell whenever they're out of the coop. There are 2 other people that I've heard from that are experiencing the same thing right now. I should know today or tomorrow what the next egg will look like.

I talked to an online friend that's been raising bunches of chickens for a long time and here's what they said. The eggs are being pushed out before they're finished due to stress. It could be hormonal, other animals, getting close to molting and even new chickens added to the flock. Their advice was not to worry about it and as long as the hen is healthy it will work itself out. She's only about 10 months old so I doubt it's time for her to molt but I have added 8 new birds since November. We'll see what happens.

Thanks for all your replies.

That makes sense as all of her eggs are not like that.

I've gotten some funky looking eggs and in researching the reasons, stress/startling as the egg moves down the chute can cause many glitches.

Ok. Good thoughts. I might try to alleviate stress by adding more nesting boxes. They're pretty big boxes and I thought they would share like my Dorkings and Orpingtons do, but I have noticed some of the Ameracauna girls tossing another hen out when they want the box.
