Hi, I kinda have a stupid question, here but I have really no idea. Golden buffs are also known as red star, buff orpington, yellow sex link, and tons of other names right? And when there born the boys are almost white, and the girls golden. But as the chicks are older they all turn kinda golden? Is the info I have incorrect???

Because one of my buff orpingtons, was making the strangest roostery sounds today. I just had to give away a rooster, [which was heartbreaking], and I'm like please don't let me go through this again.

If You know anything about buff orpingtons, I'd love your info or advice!
Thank you!!!!!

Hold up, you've got some basic info wrong.
Buff is a color. Many breeds can be buff.
Buff orpingtons are a color of a breed called orpington. they are a standard, specific, old breed that breeds true. You breed a buff orp to a buff orp you'll get a buff orp. They're very standardized. Hens and roosters are a gold color, should be pretty even over the entire body. Males do shade a bit darker on the wings sometimes, but they should be a nice even gold color, and quite fluffy.
The other "breeds" you mentioned are sex link hybrids. They are a one time deal crossing a red rooster over a silver hen. As you stated, the males hatch out silver and the females are gold, thus the term sex link--the sex is linked to the color. The hens stay gold based and are shades of red or gold with white edges depending on the specifics of the cross used to make them. The males stay white but get some red shading on the wings, mostly. Adult sex links are still easy to sex by color. But if you mate a sex link to a sex link (or anything else) you lose the genetics that link sex to color and all bets are off lol.

So, post a pic of your bird. You can't sex buff orps by color, except the darker shading if it's present. So, let us see and we can tell you what sex your bird is. Profile shots including legs are best, and please let us know how old the bird is.

golden buff is a red sex link (golden comets, red stars but NEVER buff orp)
your sex link should look like this (or similar since they can look different depending one breeds used to create them)

a buff orp is NOT a sex link at all but a true breed
this is a buff orp (top are hens bottom are cockerels)

also buff is a color not a breed

Oops sorry about that. Your right the buff orpington isn't a sex link. I got a little mixed up. Though if she's a golden bluff and she's golden it's a she right??? They were making some funny sounds but I now expect that it probably has something to do with there starting to lay. Just got our first egg on saturday!!!!!!!
