About 'Chicken' People???

.... Why so against anthropomorphism, @aart? (For some readers out there who may not be familiar with the term - this means assigning human-like attributes to animals [or anything else, really] without the Homo sapiens classification.) Is this to make necessary culling of your animals less painful?...
Nope, applies(d) to my pet dogs, cats, fish, reptiles, amphibians too.....

.......and don't need to debate it or explain - as that can be inferred as judgmental, was just expressing my opinion.

aart, thanks kindly for that link. I will check-out the postings on that board!

Thanks for the replies to this thread so far. Quite interesting to read folks positions and thoughts regarding their primary reasons for owning chickens.

No, @aart you certainly owe no one an explanation, although I did interpret this thread as a place for healthy debate. I simply wanted to know your thoughts behind your stance. Do you name your dogs and cats? If you do, you're already anthropomorphizing to an extent.

I think it is difficult to read intentions behind forum posts like these, so I will reiterate that I am not trying to be judgmental or critical. I simply am attempting to absorb as much information as I can. Just because we seem to fall on different ends of this particular spectrum doesn't mean I don't want to understand where you're coming from.

Thank you @LaPineEggs for starting this thread as it certainly is interesting to read how everyone interacts with their animals, pets and livestock alike. As I said previously, I think interactions such as these are important to gain a better understanding for all involved. I know I'm not expert in the chicken raising field. I have a lot to learn from veteran chicken farmers and am grateful to have such a wealth of knowledge available to me via BYC.
