I have a layer of pine needles then a layer of pine shaving hubby is mowing and I'm going to add a layer of grass, should I add in some shredded news paper to help with the decomposition?
DE is mixed in with the littler.. Also is fresh cut grass ok to add.
My chicks are only in the coop during the day at night they are back in the house in the brooder.

I personally wouldn't use fresh cut grass in my coop. The main reason is because the fresh grass will put moisture in your coop. You want the inside of your coop to stay dry as possible. Not only that but I feel that there's a good chance that you could start mildew because of minimum air circulation and not much way to dry the grass, especially once the chickens get to kicking it around and the fresh grass gets on the bottom of the bedding where there is no air flow.Just my thought.Someone else may have a different idea.Good Luck

I don't know. I've sprayed mine with water lightly once or twice when it got too dusty. I've put a some grass clipping in there for the girls to scratch around in. I would make sure they are not to wet.

I echo the concern about the grass clippings. Too thick a layer and mildew will rapidly develop. Not good.
