?? about guinea behavior

Don't you LOVE it when they all stand STRAIGHT UP - cracks me up!
And the little "fender" of feathers on the sides of their legs....

too cute in a weird vulture kinda way.

Mine came up onto the deck this afternoon, and I think they spotted their reflection in the door

When my guinea hen hatched a bunch of keets the other two adult guineas were kind of mean to them so I put them in the large brooder cage/pen with their mom. They were in there for three weeks before I let them all out. The other adults could see and hear them daily. After all were released...........all the adults now take care of them and chase all the chickens away from being anywhere near them. The adults used to mingle with the chickens but they don't now. They (all three adults)are very protective of the keets and you can't tell who is the "head" guinea anymore! They are very interesting though aren't they? I love having them as we had no insects or snakes this year in the yard.
edited for very bad use of English!!!

Reminds me of the song lyric"off to never-never-land".

Awww! Gotta love them for these things they do. Thanks for sharing the picture. Neat they have a mom - indeed, maybe the poor things I have do so for similar reasons, following a chicken as a mom?

Quote:
They HAD two mom's - a D'Uccle bantam hatched 2 of them, and the BO - they shared mom duties for a while (6 weeks) then the bantam gave up - and all the babies follow Daisy now.

If Daisy sits still long enough, they all crowd around and groom her.

That's a neat story - all my birds so far have had no adults to care for them like that, other than each other.

I probably need to look into whether that dark braha is really a roo like I said - I can't say that it's a certainty and when I look at the picture, seems no roo-like comb. In any case, it's been devoted to the guineas since they all arrived - maybe August, leastwise since they grew up and built a coalition.

Makes me feel more normal in cahoots with others who love their birds and their "bird lives".

Its really sweet to see the mom's being mom's.

I have one bantam who hatched out a mistake egg.

I was collecting eggs under her every day - somehow she managed to keep one. A Leghorn (ideal 236) and the rooster is Mille Fleur D'Uccle.
Gosh thats the prettiest little girl I have, that baby - and her and mom stick together like glue, the little "baby" is at least 3 months old, and still her and mom hang out together all day. They sleep together on a shelf in the coop. Very sweet.
