About how long does it take to raise meat chickens?

Yup, it's going to be a tough decision! My gut says I should probably go with the Cornish X since it will be my first time around...less time +not so cute = easier butchering (in theory).

BUT...I'm also interested in trying something similar to a Freedom Ranger too. I gathered from some quick skimming in the forum that they don't really exist any more. Is JM the only hatchery that sells something similar?

Thanks!

This forum is really incredible for the wealth of info available!

We get the white rocks. They grow quickly and are ready for processing in 10 to 12 weeks.

Are you talking about standard Plymouth White Rocks? Or, are you talking about a Cornish cross? 10-12 weeks sounds pretty fast for a standard non-hybrid chicken. If accurate, how big are your birds at processing? And, where can I get some egs or chicks from your strain of White Rocks?

JM Hatchery Colored Rangers are the Freedom Rangers, as I understand it from reading here. Name was changed because of a change in ownership.

Randall Burkey also sells Colored Rangers. I don't know what these are, whether they are something they have developed, or are just JM eggs hatched by Burkey, or what.
