About how many eggs can a broody cover?

Oh well then, maybe my Black Jersey Giant could manage 12! We'll see how it looks when I give her the eggs.

What day do you all candle to see what should be removed?

I most always set a hen with 12 eggs. I have set more have a hen with 14 but a few are small eggs. I think a big hen can set 14 to 18 easy I've seen an American game hen set 18 to 24 not all of them hatched I think some of the egg were old. My game hen set 12 hatched 11 chicks. Hen #2 for me set 12 hatched 7 . Hen #3 is on the 14 eggs. I have a new broody I will set this weekend I'll set 12 to 16 under hen.

My Buff Orpington was on 32!

now that's a great broody if she hatches all them and we need pictures of that

How many eggs can a broody hen handle if a broody hen can handle eggs?

How much wood ... Sorry I got distracted.

I have one broody hen now that didn't have any eggs because she was moved off the main nest by the more dominate hens. Inspite of her growling at me and pecking at first, I started to shove eggs under her until she couldn't seem to handle any more. I put about 10 to 12 eggs under her ranging from small to large in size.

Towards the end I think she started to smile at me. Or at least I could tell she was excited to get the eggs again. That was a couple of days ago and she seems to be doing fine, and the other hens have the main nest to lay in.

All is quiet on the hen house perch.

Any heavy breed hen like RIR Australop or Orp will cover 15 to 20 eggs with no problem.

Some of the best end experienced of my hens kicked out infertile or bad eggs from the nest after a while and she was always right.

Do you all ever put little Bantie eggs under your big hens?

My Orpington Eggs did not come as expected today, and some little Serama eggs did, and there she sits, with one egg to keep her happy...

I have some cochin banties and they, for a while while there were only 2 being broody, were able to sit on around 10-15 eggs. Then I have a few D Uccles who can sit around 7 where as one the millies wont poof up alot and can only sit 1-3 eggs.

I had a banty red sex-link sit on 12 eggs (both laid by standards and banties). She hatched out 10 chicks. One was not fertile and one chick had died.

We usually don't put more than 12 eggs under banty chickens. I haven't had any standards go broody yet.
