Hello all, I'm about one year new to the bird game. My question is when I open the bird door in the morning they go into the uncovered run. The fence is five feet tall. I know the quineas will clear it, can the chickens also to free range. The reason is I have to go to work early, so I don't have time to wait on them. I have a new English Shepherd puppy I'm hoping to teach the ropes to. Thanks

I'm not quite sure what you are asking. Can chickens get over a 5 foot fence? Yes especially if they are younger and/or smaller. Less likely if they are full size, older, and heavier. But still possible.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I want them to come out of the coop at their leisure, into the run, then fly out safely. I just didn't know if they could clear a five foot fence.

Yes they will come out at their leisure, into the run, if the popdoor is open. Usually at first light. They may or may not go over the fence. I would think if they learn to go over they will. If the run is open on top, and there is access to the coop: you may be running the risk of a predator getting in.
I do something similiar. The coop is open to the run. The run is secure all sides, top and bottom. I go out before I leave for work and open the door to the run so they can come out when they want.
