Our plan is to use both - hardware cloth and electric fence - drumstick diva suggested we post on the Vermont thread. Going to do that next! And I am begining to realize chicken wire is well ... probably not going to be on our materials list. Any good use for it?

Mine free range in a pasture surrounded by portable electric fence and have multiple shelters they can hide in. I also use deep litter in their winter housing and the brooder. You asked what chicken wire is good for... Keeping chickens in and it's pretty good for hawks and owls out.
Right now I envy you the temps you mention, our predicted maximum today is 91.5F
