Hello all,

I’m getting 6-7 baby chicks in sept.
I’ve always wanted to raise chickens and super excited.
I’ve finally convinced my husband by saying it would be good for our 6yr old kid.

Im in HighDesert California and would love to learn how to deal with hot climate raising chickens. And anything and everything about chickens.

Thank you.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
Research open air coops. Make it and the run larger than you think you need. I'd recommend a minimum of 4 sq ft per bird in the coop and 12 sq ft per bird in the attached run and make both walk in. You won't regret it.

Welcome! I'm also very new with two rental hens for the summer. In October, I get four pullets from a farm in Vermont (I'm in CT so can drive there). My new coop and run will also arrive.

My temporary hens have been excellent teachers, and the BYC community is a great support network.
