Hello all,

I’m getting 6-7 baby chicks in sept.
I’ve always wanted to raise chickens and super excited.
I’ve finally convinced my husband by saying it would be good for our 6yr old kid.

Im in HighDesert California and would love to learn how to deal with hot climate raising chickens. And anything and everything about chickens.

Thank you.

Welcome to BYC. It would be best if you posted on the California thread and asked folks directly how they manage a flock in such hot weather.

I would imagine, among other things, lots of shade (real or manufactured) , misting hoses, shallow pans of water for the birds to stand it. Freeze some gallon jugs of water and put them out for the flock. They can stay near them.

Welcome! I'm also very new with two rental hens for the summer. In October, I get four pullets from a farm in Vermont (I'm in CT so can drive there). My new coop and run will also arrive.

My temporary hens have been excellent teachers, and the BYC community is a great support network.
