I have two 11 week old black australorps. I have had them for around 1 week. They finally don't seem to hate me and they tolerate my wife. I am considering letting them out of the run in the next week and roam part of the back yard. My privacy fence is 6ft. I really don't want to jump the fence to get them. Should I just clip them? Also when (I read several posts and everyone has different opinions). My wife already wants MORE but getting babies next time

No, I don't think they could jump a fence that tall. I think they'll be fine. I got 4 chicks and 1 is a Australorp. And now I want more so I got 2 more chicks and now I want 1-2 more STILL! Oh and I also want a duck! I am hooked on birds!

No I wouldn't clip them.....You could let them out an hour before dusk and see how they do, doesn't give much time to get into trouble, then gradually let them out longer. Mine stay in a 5 ft fence and really only had a few jumping issues at the beginning when they we younger and now none at all.

We have 4 that are 10-12 weeks old (have had them 2 weeks) and we let one out tonight about an hour before dark. The others were already in the coop. We also have a 6 foot fence and we stayed close to her and just talked to her. She didn't go very far and then we herded her back in. It was easier than I thought. I do think we are going to clip wings though just because I am paranoid about them flying. We have one Leghorn, two Wyandottes, and one Easter Egger. It was the EE we let out tonight. She is the most docile and friendly of the four of them and we have had her just a week. Her name is Ginger
