I'm about to lose a chick. It was the smallest of the group but more feathered out than the rest. Kiddos called "him" Jr. cause he was so wee. I noticed this morning that it was not as active. Then once I saw all of the other peck at it, I isolated it. All day today it's been peeping with it's eyes closed, wouldn't eat, wouldn't drink. It's in bad shape now, I don't believe he will make it through the night.
I hope that I isolated him soon enough and it's not something that is going to happen to the other babies.

Any ideas what it could be?
It's an "assorted red" from tsc.

Did you make sure the temperature was 99 degrees when you isolated? It may have gotten too cold.

what about it's crop? did you feel if it may have eaten something it shouldn't like bedding. Also maybe some scrambled egg mine gobble that up like it's gold

I had one like that recently and she pulled through after I spent an evening holding her really close to me to keep her warm and periodically held a little dish of water up to her beak so she'd drink. Also I kept giving her a finger dipped in yogurt and chick crumbles. That one started eating and drinking and pulled through, which was nice! I had another one a few weeks ago that wouldn't eat or drink no matter what I did and that one eventually died. So I'd say if you can to put on a movie or something and just hold that little chick and keep a dish of water and a dish of yogurt/crumbles near and keep trying to feed and water it- hopefully that one will make it!

He's looking like he's choking when I get a drop of water in his beak. Or gasping... Seen this??

Now I'm feeling paranoid about all of the others, worried it may have been contagious.

Before my oldest daughter went to bed she looked in on him and came to tell me he was splayed flat on the bottom of the box, dead. I went to check and he was barely moving. His last bm was very firm and thick. I got the microwave heat thing and put it on my lap and wrapped him up in a rag and forced about 30cc's of water into him by syringe. I thought I was choking him because he kept throwing his head back with every gasp for air. After about an hour he's up and screaming. He's had 2 more bm's and they are much more watery. More like the rest of the babies. He's had been drinking out of the waterer all day yesterday and before... why would he stop drinking water?

I'm sure he didn't stop himself on purpose, maybe he was already constipated and once chicks get to that state they go down quickly.
Maybe he was weak and couldnt compete with his mates?

He's back to being limp and barely breathing. No further bm's were in his box. I'm clueless.
