I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

You might want to also Find Your State Thread and pop in and say hello.

During your hours of information absorption did you notice that BYC has a Learning Centre and also Topic of the Week discussions? I have found the ToW's to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock when they arrive, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Best wishes and good luck!

Greetings and welcome to BYC Deb! (Kiki... check it out... M CRV Deb ;)) So glad you joined us. If you're excited now, wait until you actually have them at home and can interact with them! Chickens are a blast! Never a dull moment.

Sorry, slow to respond.....still trying to figure out how to get around and follow here. Was lost in the MHP thread...again.....! I laughed about the "M CRV Deb" because it is actually an old sign on from a couple years ago. MC = Motorcycle and RV = RV, both alternate passions of mine. I have little imagination, didn't want to waste time trying to come up with another cute name....they are all taken:). We are in New Mexico, brooding in the house for now, and still debating who we will be bringing home tomorrow. I am supposed to be doing more research on the breeds we have access to, but keep straying from the sites. The night is still young. Because we are so limited as to the number of chickens we are allowed, I'm afraid we really should stick to the cause for now and go with good egg layers.

Thank you for all the "Welcome's". I will check out the ToW. Have not ventured there yet.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens!

Is there a BYC CRV Club?

:gig

No pictures yet. Decided that the options available to me today at the three locations we checked out were not what we are looking for, so although I really wanted to bring home some of the cuties we did see, I did not. Hard choice to make, but cute won't fill my egg boxes. We have checked out future orders coming to our area and will be waiting couple weeks for better options. I can only have 7 chickens and currently use 2-3 dozen eggs a week. Average layers, no matter how attractive won't suit our needs at this time. Just gives me more time to browse the info here.

Welcome to BYC Deb! I see you are planning on using the heat pad. Great choice from all the recommendations I hear about that system from users with the experience base I trust.

Hopefully you can move them out to the coop sooner as long as your coop is not super drafty with those high winds. I brooded in our guest bathroom in the tub, and my wife still reminds me about it each and every time I start talking about getting more chicks. The dander/dust combo gets into and on to everything. I'm still getting more chicks mind you but they are going into a windowed shed this time. Attached some reading materials you might enjoy.
