Our names are Cody & Felica(obvious much?)--
We are a couple from the heart of the midwest--Northwest Iowa!! We are 26 & 23 years old. We have a 3 year old daughter, 2 fur babies-both dogs(mixed breed & a pit bull), and we have 43 feathered babies(38 chickens & 5 ducks). We were first time chicken parents in the summer of 2012 with a total of
Ten chickens:
2 california whites(hen & rooster),
2 australorps(hens),
2 rhode island reds(hens),
4 cochin bantams-2 barred(hen & rooster) 1 blue(hen) 1 mottled(rooster)]--
we originally got them for the farm fresh eggs, but we discovered that they were SO much more to us than just egg providers.. they're family! So this past summer we added
Nineteen more chickens:
3 americaunas(hens),
3 golden spangled hamburgs(hens)
3 silkies(1 buff(rooster) 1 black(rooster) 1 white(hen),
5 golden laced cochin bantams(2 roosters 3 hens),
5 phoenixes--a mix of silver and gold--(2 gold roosters, 1 silver rooster, 2 hens)
And, for the first time this summer we had a batch of our own chicks hatched!!!-- 15 eggs laid with 9 hatched! They were hatched by our Blue Cochin Bantam hen and they are a mix of blue, barred, and mottled cochin bantams. We think we have 2 or 3 roosters and the rest are hens. We were SUPER excited when they hatched.
This summer also brought something new to the plate in terms of our feathered babies, we became first time duck parents! We have 5 rouens- 3 females and 2 males-- we had six(3 of each) but a hawk came along and got one of our males and a couple of our chickens.
When we aren't spending our time working we can usually be found outdoors with our furry and feathered babies!
We are looking forward to being a part of this awesome site(that we've checked out numerous times in search of answers to our chicken and duck questions). Thought it was finally time to become a full on BYC member!
