Welcome from Southern California! The barred rock (top pic) is definitely a roo--speaking from experience. Barred rock roos are typically lighter in color than pullets, which was my first clue when my two adopted chicks got to be about four weeks old. Then I started to hear a faint "er errrr" coming from the coop in the morning. Then at six months he was very large, very beautiful, and very loud. Sad to say he had to go.
