I swear I spend half my day taking wanna-be broodies out of the nesting boxes. Its like a never ending battle!
I have 3 standard Cochins laying on eggs. All day long I keep finding my RSL, Wheaten Ameraucana, Blue Cochin and a couple others, either smooshing in the same nesting box to lay their eggs or squeezing into the box and swiping some of my broodies eggs to set on themselves.
What the heck!! Do they see other hens being broody and get jealous? Even my RIR was trying to swipe some of the Cochins eggs today and move them under her! There are 5 other nesting boxes the layers could still use, but noooo. I really don't need all 23 hens going broody at the same time.
The bantam coop is no better. I kept finding 2-3 hens sitting on top of one of the broody Silkies. So now I gave them all eggs to hatch and have 4 broody Silkies and 1 black Jap!
I hope they all get over this soon, my daily egg totals have already dropped from 22-13 a day!
